Cultural Capital
At Parkhill Infants’ School, we aim to take our children on a Meaningful, Memorable, Magical learning journey which will equip them for the future.
We strive for our children to leave us with a depth of knowledge of the world, a wide range of skills, a love of learning and an ambition to succeed.
Cultural Capital is the essential knowledge that children need in order to be successful in their futures.
Cultural Capital can be defined as:
The essential knowledge that pupils need to be educated citizens, introducing them to the best that has been thought and said, and helping to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.
Every child will bring their own experiences, beliefs, traditions and knowledge to our school environment and these will be embraced and celebrated.
As a child moves through Parkhill Infants’ School, they will gain more Cultural Capital through the experiences offered to them as part of our Meaningful, Memorable, Magical curriculum. As a result they will be supported to strive to achieve more, to be the best that they can be and when they are older to achieve social mobility regardless of their background.
At Parkhill Infants’ School we plan carefully to ensure that there is a wide range of experiences available to each and every child to enhance their Cultural Capital from Nursery to Year 2.
Some aspects of Cultural Capital are covered within the curriculum, others are covered in assembly and some are through planned activities such as educational visits and visitors to the school.
