Curriculum Rationale

The Rationale for the curriculum at Parkhill Infants’ School is inspired by and reflects our vision that all children will…

  • be responsible and independent
  • care about the world and everything in it
  • value diversity and the uniqueness of one another
  • aspire to high standards of achievement in all areas of life
  • become lifelong learners

Our curriculum is organised in terms of experiences and activities that will promote the continued growth of each child through the acquisition of knowledge, concepts and skills. It is bound together by our Rights Respecting ethos and British Values on which we place so much emphasis and which make us a positive, successful and purposeful community.

We provide a safe, caring and happy environment where high quality learning and teaching opportunities ensure a culture of success and achievement. Children are active and involved in their learning which is through quality, first hand experiences.

Staff use a variety of approaches, strategies and activities to ensure that we meet the learning needs of each child. We know that all children need careful nurturing and will always make a special effort to ensure that everyone is supported in making the most of every moment at school.

Our curriculum is enriched by a wide range of activities such as trips and community visits, visitors to the school, focus weeks and extra- curricular activities. We make the most of our green spaces and the natural resources in and around our school to support our learning.

We are very proud of the social and cultural diversity of our school and the richness and experiences that this brings to our community. This diversity is reflected in our curriculum, our policies and procedures and our school environment.
