Our School Pets
At Parkhill Infants’ our school pets are an important part of our community. Through caring for our animals, we learn more about how they grow, what they eat and drink and the environments that they live in. We’re really excited to introduce you to them:
Guinea Pigs
Pumpkin & Biscuit are our lovable Guinea Pigs. You’ll often find them tucked away in their hutch nibbling on their lettuce leaves and hay. The children enjoy spending time with the guinea pigs and some have had the chance to hold and stroke them. When not at school, they enjoy weekends and holidays with Mrs Chaundy.
Fish
We have several fish tanks around our school, home to our wonderful collection of freshwater fish, sea snails and beautiful aquatic plants. Our Nursery children take very good care of their Black Moors, Fancy Goldfish and White Cloud Mountain Minnows and enjoying watching them playfully swim in their aquarium. Once a week our fish are looked after by our Aquatic Expert, Neil Rule, who also runs our Aquarium Club where children find out more about Sea creatures.
Ducklings
Each year we receive a new group of duck eggs that we carefully watch as they incubate and eventually hatch. Over the course of a week, we watch the chatty ducklings grow and quickly learn to waddle and play. At the end of the week, they find a loving long-term home where they are able to paddle and roam in the outdoors.
Chickens
We are privileged to have our own school chickens; we’ve watched them hatch from eggs and now they’re almost fully grown chickens. When not at school, our chickens live with our Deputy Headteacher, Mr Ahmed.
