Children’s rights at Parkhill Infants' School
Every child matters. Every voice matters.
At Parkhill Infants’ School, we want every child to feel safe, valued and listened to. Children’s rights are part of how we learn together, care for one another and make decisions about school life.
We achieved UNICEF Gold: Rights Respecting award in May 2018, following our Silver award in March 2015. We are now working towards Gold reaccreditation and continuing to put children’s rights at the heart of our school.
What are children’s rights?
Children’s rights are things every child needs to grow, learn and thrive. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child says that all children have rights, including the right to:

Share their views and be listened to
These rights belong to every child, wherever they live and whatever their background.
At Parkhill, we bring rights to life through stories, assemblies, conversations and everyday moments in the classroom and playground.
Rights in action at Parkhill Infants' School
Being a Rights Respecting School is about what we do each day. Children learn to listen to one another, share their ideas, include others and recognise when something is unfair. Adults show the same respect in the way they speak with children, support them and make decisions.
Children’s voices shape our school
Even our youngest children have ideas worth hearing. Class discussions, circle time and our Unicef Council give children opportunities to tell us what matters to them and help make our school an even better place.
Our Rights Respecting work goes hand in hand with our values: Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Resilient, Be Curious and Be Proud.

Our journey continues
As we work towards Gold reaccreditation, we are looking at how children learn about rights, experience rights through school life and take action for the rights of others.
We will keep listening to children, working with families and finding new ways to make children’s rights meaningful every day.
